None of this requires a boating licence in the way it might abroad: narrowboats can be hired and steered with zero prior experience, after a short handover briefing from the operator, and the same goes for most motor boats on inland water. Sailing yachts in tidal water are the exception - renters typically need a recognised qualification or book with a skipper included.
