Yacht rental in Corfu

A yacht rental in Corfu works best around one cruising area. A practical week can combine the east and northeast coast, the Greek mainland around Sivota, and one or two stops on Paxos. Treat Antipaxos as a weather-dependent daytime visit rather than a guaranteed overnight stop.

The west coast and Diapontia Islands face the open Ionian and belong in a separate settled-weather plan. Qualified crews can compare bareboat offers, while guests wanting local knowledge can book a captain. After a late handover, stay near the base and keep the final night close to the return marina. May, June, and September often bring less berth pressure, but the current forecast governs every departure.

Boat Types Available in Corfu

Sailboats

A sailboat in Corfu suits active passages and flexible island routes. A monohull needs less berth width than a multihull, but it heels and offers less level living space. Compare reefing, shade, water, cabins, draft, anchor gear, and the operator's experience requirements.

Catamarans

Catamarans in Corfu offer a stable salon, broad cockpit, and separated cabins. Shallow draft helps only where charts and rules permit. Beam, windage, anchor load, and dock compatibility affect handling and overnight cost in small harbors.

Motorboats

Motorboats in Corfu fit day trips and short coastal transfers when cabins are secondary. They cover nearby stops quickly, but chop reduces comfort and speed raises fuel use. Confirm shade, capacity, range, sea-state limits, fuel policy, qualification, and captain provision.

Motor yachts

Motor yachts in Corfu add cabins, speed, and weather protection. Crew, meals, fuel, tender use, and harbor charges are listing-specific. Compare consumption and range because speed does not make an exposed passage comfortable.

Power catamarans

Power catamarans in Corfu combine multihull space with engine-led passages. Twin engines increase fuel use, while beam limits some docks. Confirm consumption, deposit, generator use, availability, and included services.

Gulets

Gulets in Corfu are specialist captained group offers. Cabins, crew, meals, fuel, air conditioning, and port charges vary, so compare every inclusion rather than the headline rate.

Charter Options in Corfu

Bareboat charter makes the customer responsible for navigation, weather, anchoring, and the yacht. Ask the operator to confirm in writing that the exact captain's certificate is accepted for the vessel and cruising area and whether a Greek or English translation or declaration is needed. Confirm the yacht's VHF requirements, send documents before payment, and carry the accepted originals.

A captained charter places navigation and harbor maneuvers with a professional. It does not automatically include a hostess, chef, meals, fuel, or the captain's food and cabin. Confirm duties and costs. Give the operator accurate identity details for e-Charterparty, carry the signed charterparty, and ensure every person aboard matches the submitted record.

Main Charter Bases and Sailing Areas in Corfu

Gouvia for week-long charters

Gouvia yacht rentals provide a broad choice of weekly sailboats, catamarans, and powered craft. The full-service base is near Corfu International Airport, but confirm transportation to the exact check-in office. Its layout changed after a 2026 upgrade, so follow current dock and berth instructions.

Benitses on the east coast

Benitses yacht rentals offer a secondary base south of Corfu Town with sailing, multihull, and powered options. It shortens the first leg toward southern Corfu and Paxos. Verify services, embarkation point, and berth assignment for the chosen operator.

Corfu Town and the commercial harbor

Corfu Town boat rentals suit a city-first start and include crewed or larger-craft offers. They do not match Gouvia's bareboat breadth. Confirm whether pickup is at the Old Port, a nautical club, or another facility, and keep clear of ferry, cruise, and commercial movements.

Paleokastritsa for west-coast day boats

Paleokastritsa boat rentals are mainly small motorboats for local daytime exploration, not a standard week-long yacht fleet. The west coast faces open-Ionian swell and has fewer dependable refuges. Stay within the offer's operating area, check the return conditions, and do not assume access to every cave or cove.

Sailing vacations and one-week itineraries

A Corfu sailing vacation usually follows one of two itineraries. The northern route links Gouvia, Sivota on the mainland, Lakka and Mongonisi on Paxos and returns along the northeast coast, keeping most legs under 25 miles. The longer version adds Lefkada and the inner Ionian, which needs settled weather and an early start each day. Plan the final night within reach of the base marina rather than on Paxos.

Practical Sailing Information for Corfu

Check the EMY North Ionio marine forecast, HNHS charts, Notices to Mariners, and Kerkyra NAVTEX before every leg. A west or northwesterly sea breeze often strengthens after midday, and headlands can create sharper gusts. Start exposed legs early, reef before acceleration zones, and retain a sheltered alternative.

Follow the marked approach and current directions at Gouvia, calling the marina on VHF 69, and contact Benitses on VHF 67 before entry. Around Corfu Town, maintain a close watch for ferries, cruise ships, and commercial traffic. Use current large-scale charts for Kanoni, Gaios, and every confined harbor because copied depths and buoy positions can be stale.

Paxos, Antipaxos, the Diapontia marine area, and parts of Corfu's coast are Natura 2000 sites, but that status does not itself mean a blanket navigation ban. Check current NECCA and Port Authority zoning. Use authorized moorings or clearly visible bare sand, keeping anchor and chain off Posidonia. Never enter sea caves or approach, follow, or feed monk seals.

Keep clear of buoyed swimming areas and swimmers, use marked access channels, proceed at the minimum safe speed near shore, and obey local limits. Know the onboard radio and emergency equipment. For grave or imminent danger, use VHF channel 16 and call 112 or the Hellenic Coast Guard on 108.

Retain trash, oil, and wastewater aboard for authorized shore facilities and follow the yacht's tank instructions. Recreational fishing remains subject to gear, catch, species, season, and local-area rules. Any voyage to Albania or Italy needs prior written operator approval plus confirmation of insurance, documents, navigation limits, and current border or port formalities.
