Last week, I had a chartered catamaran, Elfrith. Unfortunately, my vacation was ruined by the charter company. 1. The catamaran was in bad shape, even though it is produce in 2022. Specifically, the main halyard was broken in 3 places, the yacht had signs of damage on the right side, and there was a significant vibration on the reverse gear of one of the engines. Most of the doors inside did not close. I've notified the charter company of that, and we've agreed to take photos of the damages. They've insisted that the rope and the gear are okay and there were no reports of any problems from the previous captain. 2. On the first exit on the next day, the reverse failed. I've barely managed to get the boat safely out of the port to evaluate the situation. After the evaluation, I requested assistance from the marina. The examination showed that the gearbox failed. The repairs took 1 full day. 3. The charter company did not provide a single apology for that situation to me or my family. 4. In the process of the charter, the left tank almost exploded as it was deformed. That also required some repairs. The piece from the plastic cover has broken out and hit my sons face. 4. After the next day, I felt a slight loss of power in the engine. It was the same engine that was repaired. The loss of power was getting worse, so we had to get back to the home marina, canceling our plans. On the approach, the loss of power was complete. We've requested the assistance again. 5. The first idea of both me and the engineers was the failure of the broken part. However, after the examination, it was found that the propeller was missing. We did not hit anything. Also, there were no residuals of the ropes or any foreign objects. 6. The repairs took the whole next day. 7. I've asked the charter company to refund me at least 2 days. 7. After finishing the charter, the charter company said that instead of a refund, it would charge 1350$ for the repairs. The calculations did not look legit to me. 8. After some negotiations, the charter company did return my deposit withholding 1000$ for something I did not broke. The boat is in unsuitable condition for rent and renting that endagers the crew.
