Boat Issues: Fridge doesn’t close properly (door kept swinging open during rough seas) Electrical panel in bedrooms is only attached with Velcro so falls down easily when there are waves Missing bolt from gangway making it dangerous to cross (walk off the boat) Twisted outdoor shower hose due to previous charter Bedbugs in one of the cabins Most of the plugs onboard didn’t work (the charter company bought a multiplug as a temporary fix, though they didn’t take the time to test it so it ended up creating more problems than before (seeing as they bought a very low quality multiplug with no surge protector, it kept short circuiting the system on board and all the electricity would go out each time) As a gesture towards the use of the generator in order to charge our devices, the charter company said that they would offer us a discount on the fuel at the end of the trip…. Aircon didn’t work on main deck Magnetic door stop in one of the rooms stopped working during the trip 2nd SUP was broken by previous charter (no effort was made to replace it or offer something else in its place) Windows above beds were not watertight (water came in and wet some of the beds) Aircon didn’t work when the engine was on (only generator) Bed linen, pillows and towels were of very low quality Door knobs fell off several doors during the trip Dropping and raising the anchor was a complicated ordeal involving clearing the entire front deck, overturning the lounge cushions to open two deck doors (1 to access the control and the other to push the chain manually with a broomstick as it would get stuck otherwise). This became a 2 person job which is extremely inefficient. Many of the issues above were created by previous charter guests, however, the charter company was happy to let me sign contract without informing me of any of these issues Skipper Issues: Last minute change to skipper (though this could have been avoided as we left a day late anyway) Skipper had preconceived ideas about food situation and assumed that we would eat lunch each day. He decided to do his own food shopping (which we refunded him for), yet he continued to consume our food and drink that he had originally said he didn’t like or want. Skipper was drinking and smoking during the whole trip (wish we had been warned about this so that we could have opted for someone else) Skipper was smoking and drinking during the whole trip Skipper was very lazy and expected up to pick up after him; washing his dishes, picking up his cigarette butts wherever he left them All itinerary decisions were made by the skipper; covering his arse each time (citing safety concerns about sea sickness) even though everyone aboard was willing to confront the rough seas. He even cited that if we didn’t do it his way he could face jail time for putting our lives in danger due to sea sickness. We would decide on an itinerary with the skipper, leave port to an agreed upon location, only to wake up and find out that he had decided to change the plan and we arrive somewhere we had no intention of going to in the first place. Seeing as the last charter group on our boat had asked the skipper to ferry them to and from the boat with the dinghy to often, he went out of his way to suggest places and itineraries that involved the least amount of dinghy trips. On one of our beach stops in Syros, one of us was blown off course on the SUP and had trouble returning to the boat, so the skipper jumped in a swam to help out. Upon returning to the boat, the skipper said that he doesn’t want to do any more swimming so we should avoid putting him in such a position again. For someone who claims that our safety is his number 1 priority, this contradicts this completely. We were very flexible and let him rest/sleep when needed, though, when we asked him to leave at a certain time it became a négociation as he wasn’t always willing to do what was asked. On the last day of sailing there was a strong crosswind, so the skipper decided to remove his clothes that were drying at the back of the boat for fear that they would blow away, however he decided to leave one of our swim shorts hanging and as a result it blew away. What a selfish attitude. When we returned the last day back to Mykonos, the skipper was filling up the fuel tanks and kept on overfilling it so that the gasoline overflowed several times onto the boat and into the sea. He also had an unlit cigarette in his mouth and said that the only reason it wasn’t lit was that he couldn’t find a lighter. All in all, the skipper was more of a seeing and avoiding problems type of person
